Pickering Castle 2013

Pickering Castle 2013

Pickering castle is a remarkably well preserved ruin of a motte-and-bailey fortification in Pickering, North Yorkshire.

The original wooden version of the fortification was built by the Normans between 1069 and 1070. The ruins are particularly well preserved as the castle was largely unaffected by the Wars of the Roses and the English Civil War of the 17th century.
